Attracta Takes Over Robots.txt

I thought Attracta was helping my site. Little did I know it was just weighing my site down because they changed my robots.txt file.

Attracta

AttractaLogoI love Hostmonster, but one specific affiliate of theirs isn’t the best. Which affiliate? Attracta. After having a site set up for a while I read that Attracta specializes in search engine optimization. Of course it sounds good to hear that for free you can submit your site to Attracta to boost your SEO. Little did I know that Attracta would just weigh my site down.

AttractaListAttracta is set up to look like they are doing your site good. They have columns with submit buttons and a personal site score. With Attracta’s free service they make you manually submit your data weekly to keep your score at 100, which seems reasonable. If you don’t submit weekly, your score will drop and make it seem like this is bad for your site. They try to get you to buy their service which may work (I have no idea). If Attracta’s free service can’t be trusted, how can paid service be? I stuck with the free stuff and thought I was doing my site a favor.

One day I was going through files and opened up my robots.txt file. As soon as I open the file, my jaw drops… I see a list of Attracta junk. I copied exactly what was in the file and pasted it below.

There was a sitemap pointing to an Attracta server and not only did they change the robots.txt for one domain, they changed the files on my sub-domains too. I immediately changed the files to my needs and quickly rushed over to Attracta’s site. I found that I could delete my account with them, and I did just that. I was relieved to get rid of it.
